A Personal Journey of Healing
Our founder, Madhu Shetti, M.D., spent over a decade battling a painful skin condition. While she eventually found a systemic drug that led to a cure, it produced harsh long-term effects like joint pain and sun sensitivity. This deeply personal experience gave her a unique perspective on skin sensitivity and the challenges that come with it.
Living through the challenges of managing sensitive skin inspired her to become an oncologist. She set out to help those struggling
with similar skincare issues.
From Patient to Physician
Dr. Shetti graduated from the University of Michigan
Medical School and served as chief resident at the University of
Washington during her radiation oncology residency.
As an oncologist, she often saw her patients suffer from painful skin symptoms both during and after cancer treatments. Yet, she found
that there weren’t many skincare options designed to treat radiation
therapy burns. This motivated her to explore potential solutions to this
problem.
A Mission Takes Shape
Dr. Shetti launched Balmere using her personal and
professional experiences. She leaned on her skin sensitivity struggles and what
she had seen while working as an oncologist to jumpstart her company.
From the beginning, Balmere’s mission has been simple: To
develop skincare solutions that truly support patients throughout their cancer treatments and prevent radiation burns from making already difficult situations
even worse.
Science Meets Understanding
While Dr. Shetti’s experiences have played a key role in Balmere’s success thus far, she has relied on oncologists, dermatologists, and others in the medical field to help her create the most effective skincare products. She has also routinely asked patients for input on the products that
